BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla asked some strong questions to Mohsin Naqvi in the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting held on Tuesday. This comes after India were not handed the Asia Cup trophy following their victory over Pakistan in the final and went to their hotel empty-handed. Notably, the Men in Blue had refused to collect the trophy from Naqvi, who is the chief of both ACC and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), however the latter insisted on giving it to them. This eventually led to Suryakumar Yadav & Co. having a trophyless celebration.
Sports Tak has learned that Shukla had a heated argument with Naqvi during the ACC meet and questioned why he didn't hand India the trophy after they won the final. He also reminded the ACC chief that the Asia Cup is not an individual property and it should be handed properly to the winners.
BCCI want the matter to be solved urgently
Shukla further urged the ACC members to handle the matter on priority basis so that the Indian team can get the Asia Cup trophy as soon as possible. However, Naqvi went on to defend his decision and stated that the ACC had not informed him that the Indian team will not be taking the trophy from him.
"I was standing there as cartoon without any reason. There was no information to acc in writing that Indian team will not accept it from me," Naqvi said, as per a source close to Sports Tak.
The matter didn't reach a solution in the meeting as Naqvi eventually went on to say that he will discuss about it on a different platform. The PCB chairman also didn't congratulate India for their Asia Cup triumph during the meeting and now it remains to be seen as to when will he hand the Men in Blue of their well-deserved winner's medals and trophy.
Suryakumar slammed ACC over the matter
Earlier, India captain Suryakumar Yadav had also raised questions over Naqvi's actions and had said that he hasn't seen such a thing happening in his career.
"This is one thing which I have never seen. Since I started playing cricket, I have been following cricket. That a champion team is denied a trophy. That too, a hard earned one. It's not like it happened easily. But it was a hard-earned victory. We have been here since the 4th, and played a game today. Two back-to-back good games in two days. I feel we deserved it. And I can't say anything more. I think I have summed it up really well," Suryakumar had said in the post-match press-conference.
