India openers Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill were involved in an on-field verbal spat with Pakistan speedster Haris Rauf during the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four clash at Dubai International Stadium in Dubai. The duo were off to a rollicking start as Abhishek started the proceedings with a six of premier pace Shaheen Shah Afridi.
Both batters were smashing Pakistani bowlers to all over the ground in a 172-run chase. The incident happened during the last ball of the fourth over, bowled by Haris Rauf. Gill smashed the Pakistan bowler for a four, and soon after, the India vice captain's boundary. Gill was calling out Rauf after the ball went for four, then it looked like the bowler had a go at Abhishek Sharma, who responded in kind. Then umpire Gazi Sohel got involved. The clip of the incident went viral on social media. Here is the video.
Coming back to the match, India opener Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill smashed 101 runs in nine overs, where the southpaw scored 56 off 29 and Gill scored 44 off 25, including four sixes and the same fours and eight boundaries respectively.
Earlier, after being asked to bat, Pakistan managed to score 171 runs in 20 overs. India's Shivam Dube was the pick of the bowlers with two crucial wickets. Dube grabbed the wickets of Farhan (58 off 45 balls) and Saim Ayub (21 off 17 balls), who had stitched together a valuable 72-run partnership for the second wicket.
Notably, this is the second time that India and Pakistan are facing each other in the ongoing Asia Cup. Both teams earlier faced each other in the Group Stage clash last week where the Men in Blue defeated Pakistan by seven wickets.
