In a captivating display at the Asian Games 2023, young Indian sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal achieved his inaugural T20I century against Nepal during the men's quarter-final. From the onset, Jaiswal dominated the game, reaching the 50-run milestone in a mere 22 balls. His unparalleled combination of aggression and finesse left the Nepal team grappling for strategies.
The left-handed opener showcased an array of impressive strokes across the pitch, leaving the Nepalese bowlers in disarray. Under the pressure of the significant quarter-final, Jaiswal's stellar performance radiated confidence and skill. After scoring 100 runs off just 49 balls with the help of eight fours and seven sixes, Jaiswal was dismissed by Dipendra Singh.
Adding to India's formidable front was Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. Together, the pair crafted a 100-plus opening stand after India won the toss and elected to bat. With Gaikwad's renowned composed gameplay harmonizing Jaiswal's bold shots, the duo laid the groundwork for a commanding Indian total.
Later, it was Rinku Singh put on an exhilarating display of stroke-making as the left-handed batter pummeled two fours and four sixes during his 15-ball unbeaten stay at the crease. The left-handed batter, who is known for his imperious finishing ability, scored a quick-fire 37 not out off 15 balls that ultimately powered India's score to 202/4 in 20 overs.
Apart from Jaiswal and Singh, the other Indian batters struggled for timing while Shivam Dube did manage to accumulate some quick runs at the end. The muscular left-handed batter remained unbeaten on 25 runs off 19 balls with the help of two fours and a six.
Meanwhile, Gaikwad could only score 25 runs off 23 balls with the help of four fours. Tilak Varma had a forgettable outing as the left-handed batter could just score two runs off 10 balls.
On debut, wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma failed to make an impression with the bat as the right-handed scored five runs ooff four deliveries.Â
