Former Australia cricketer Brad Haddin lavished praise on Rohit Sharma for winning the second Test match against Bangladesh which was played at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. India won the Test match after losing two full days to a wet outfield and only 35 overs were possible on day one.
Considering the weather and remaining time there were calculations and speculations that this match will end in a draw but after bowling Bangladesh out for 233, India adopted a T20 approach, scoring 285 in just 34.4 overs before declaring their first innings. With two batters lost overnight, Bangladesh was dismissed in their second innings just before lunch, allowing India to wrap up the match in the second session.
Former Australia vice-captain Brad Haddin hailed Rohit Sharma's mindset of attacking approach in the second Test match. He said that the Indian captain could easily go for a draw and no one could have said anything.
"Rohit Sharma has been a captain, he thinks win first - everything second - they could have easily had a net session, went to a draw - no one could have said anything but the mindset of Rohit Sharma to get a result - so my hat goes off to India" said Brad Haddin on LiSTNR Sport youtube channel.
Rohit Sharma on India's bold play in Kanpur Test
After India’s dramatic win in the weather-affected second Test against Bangladesh, Rohit Sharma revealed that the team was prepared to risk being bowled out for around 100 runs in their bold pursuit of a result.
"Once we lost two and a half days, when we came on day 4 we wanted to get them out as quickly as possible and see what we can do with the bat. When they got bowled out for 230, it wasn't about the runs we get but the overs we got at them," said Rohit at the post-match presentation.
"To make a game out of it on that pitch was a superb effort. It was a risk we were willing to take because when you're trying to bat like that, you can be bundled out for a low score. But we were ready for it even if we got bowled out for 100-120.
Rohit Sharma will now be seen in action in the upcoming three-Test match series against New Zealand which is scheduled to start from 16 October.
