Virat Kohli might not be the official captain of the team anymore but as Jasprit Bumrah once said, he is still the team's leader. This was evident on Monday, September 30, during Day four of the second Test match between India and Bangladesh at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur when Ravichandran Ashwin responded extremely well to the guidance given by the former Indian captain.
Ravichandran Ashwin was among the wickets in little time at all, as he removed Zakir Hasan and Hasan Mahmud before stumps to give India a decisive lead heading into the final day and produce an unexpected victory in the rain-affected encounter.
In a video which is going viral all over the internet at a rapid pace, Kohli was seen approaching Ashwin and he appeared to be telling the veteran Indian spinner to take the ball away from Zakir. The strategy paid off as the veteran who has played 102 Test matches caught the Bangladeshi opener in front of the stumps with a spectacular delivery.
India dominate Bangladesh on Day 4
Talking about the match after India won the toss and elected to bowl first, only 35 overs of action was possible on the first three days due to rain and a wet outfield. On the fourth day, the Indian bowling squad proved to be exceptional as they knocked out Bangladesh for a mere 233 runs in a battle against time.
Subsequently, the Indian batting team broke records with the bat, going on the attack from the first over. With a score of 285 in just 34.4 overs, the home team established a commanding 52-run lead. As the fifth-day approaches, Bangladesh is still behind by 26 runs after having lost two wickets.
KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal both scored half-centuries, and Kohli, who was at the peak of his game with the bat, struck a 47 off 35 balls. Important cameos were also made by Shubman Gill and Indian captain Rohit Sharma. In terms of Test captaincy, Kohli has lead India in 68 matches and has 40 victories under his belt, making him the most successful captain in history. The 35-year-old led the squad as captain from 2015 until 2022, a span of seven years.
