Pooran is the fourth on the list of leading six-hitters in CPL 2024.

In the third match of the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024, Trinbago Knight Riders’ wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran broke the record for most sixes in a calendar year in the format. With nine sixes in his destructive 97-run knock against St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, Pooran broke Chris Gayle's record of 135 sixes (including T20Is, domestic T20s and franchise cricket) which he created in 2015. Pooran now has 139 sixes in 2024.

Pooran zooms past Munro

Pooran also left behind T20 veterans on two different lists. Pooran is now fourth on the list of leading six-hitter in T20s. He has 551 sixes from 355 games. He went past former New Zealand batter Colin Munro who has 548 sixes from 428 games. The top spot is occupied by Chris Gayle (1,056 sixes), Kieron Pollard (877 sixes) and Andre Russell (704 sixes). Now, all top four spots are occupied by West Indies batters.

Poor goes past Russell

Pooran climbed one spot in the list of leading six-hitters in CPL history too. He went past Russell who has 141 sixes from 97 games. Pooran has 150 sixes from 104 games after his onslaught against Andre Fletcher's Patriots.

Big win for Knight Riders

Pooran missed his century but helped Knight Riders post a monstrous total of 250/4. This is the third-highest total of CPL. Knight Riders beat Patriots by 44 runs to open their account.

Pooran revealed that he used the wind factor to his advantage and knew the danger Patriots’ batting lineup poses. He wants to take responsibility and win the CPL for Knight Riders.

“Definitely good innings. Was a small boundary and there was wind factor. It is chaseable here. The Patriots have a dangerous batting line up. 250 on that track gave us a chance. The batters coming here find it favourable. The start was brilliant. I tried to play the match ups keeping the wind factor in mind. Was trying to take it as deep as possible,” the 28-year-old said in the post-match presentation.

“On a small ground, the batters can get carried away. Playing T20 cricket for a long time now. I need to put the work in. I want to win games and tournaments. I want to win the CPL. I want to take responsibility,” he added.
