Former Pakistan head coach Jason Gillespie has launched a scathing attack on Men in Green's current interim coach Aaqib Javed, branding him a 'clown'. Gillespie's remark came after Aaqib Javed cited Pakistan men's team's struggles to the frequent changes in coaching and management during a press conference. Recently, Pakistan became one of the first teams to be knocked out of the Champions Trophy 2025 which placed them at the centre of criticism.

Jason Gillespie calls Aaqib Javed 'clown'

Gillespie, in an Instagram story, went down heavily on Javed's claims and further alleged that he had consistently attempted to undermine former coach Gary Kirsten and him.

Both Gillespie and Kirsten resigned from the post of Pakistan coach coaching positions within a year of their appointments, citing disagreements with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials. Following Kirsten's departure, Gillespie assumed the role of interim white-ball coach while retaining his responsibilities for the red-ball team. However, his tenure was short-lived, as he resigned shortly before the Test series against South Africa.

In a press conference held on Tuesday, March 4, Aaqib Javed voiced his concerns regarding the instability plaguing Pakistani cricket. He lamented the absence of consistent management and coaching, which he believes has hindered the team's progress. Moreover, he pointed to the players' reluctance to participate in four-day domestic matches, a crucial avenue for skill development. These issues came to the forefront following Pakistan's disappointing performance in the Champions Trophy. The defending champions suffered consecutive losses to New Zealand and India, resulting in their early exit from the tournament. Their final group-stage match against Bangladesh was abandoned due to rain, further compounding their struggles.

"We have changed nearly 16 coaches and 26 selectors in the last two years or so. You put that formula on any team in the world, I think they will also be in the same situation. Until you get consistency right from the top down to the bottom, from the chairman down, then your team will not progress," Aaqib Javed said in the press conference.

Following Aaqib Javed's comments, Jason Gillespie took to Instagram to express his strong disagreement. In an Instagram story, he posted a direct response to Javed's statements in which he labelled the current Pakistan's interim head coach as clown.

"This is hilarious. Aaqib was clearly undermining Gary and I behind the scenes campaigning to be the coach in all formats. He is a clown," Gillespie's Instagram story read.
