In the 18th season of the competition in 2025, the Delhi Capitals will be vying for their maiden IPL championship with a new team. However, only days before the start of their first game on March 24 (Monday) against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), the team have been faced with a severe setback, as one of their players, Harry Brook, has got a ban from the BCCI for 2 years from the league. Due to obligations with the England National team, Harry Brook abruptly withdrew from the 2025 IPL.
Harry Brook to get two-year ban
A BCCI source told Sports Tak that the England batter has been prohibited from participating in the IPL auction for the next two years in accordance with the new BCCI regulation. He will not be allowed to take part in IPL next year. Brook and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have both received an official message from the BCCI.
As per the BCCI's rules, which were communicated to all players before their registration for the IPL auction last year, Brook and the ECB have been informed that he will be banned for two years. Every player must abide by the board's established policy.
Harry Brook on pulling out of IPL 2025
Harry Brook expressed regret to the Delhi Capitals for missing the 2025 Indian Premier League in a statement. He took this action in order to give the England national team his full attention for the forthcoming three-match ODI series against the West Indies and a crucial five-match Test series against India.
“I have made the very difficult decision to pull out of the upcoming IPL. I apologise unreservedly to the Delhi Capitals and their supporters. I love cricket. Ever since I was a young boy, I have dreamt of playing for my country, and I am extremely thankful to have the opportunity to play the game I love at this level. With the guidance of people I trust, I have taken the time to seriously consider this decision. It is a really important time for England cricket, and I want to fully commit to preparing for the upcoming series. In order to do this, I need time to recharge after the busiest period in my career to date," Brook said.
“I know not everyone will understand, and I don’t expect them to, but I have to do what I believe is right, and playing for my country remains my priority and focus. I remain hugely grateful for the opportunities I have been given and the support I receive," he added.
