India will be hoping for a comeback in the white-ball series against England following a lacklustre showing in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The Champions Trophy will come after the home series. Pakistan is set to host the ICC event from February 19 to March 9. However, all of India's matches will take place in Dubai under the hybrid model policy. Rohit Sharma will captain India in the Champions Trophy in 2025. A few days after India won the 2024 T20 World Cup, he was officially announced as the skipper for the ICC tournament.
Following the T20 World Cup, Shubman Gill was placed in India's leadership group and named the white-ball teams' vice-captain. Rohit is deputy in the 2024 World Cup and the 2023 ODI World Cup, Hardik Pandya, appeared destined to succeed him as captain of the T20I team. However, he was disregarded. In no configuration did he even receive the title of vice-captain.
Bumrah to be vice-captain of India in Champions Trophy
Shubman was expected to assist Rohit in the Champions Trophy because he was appointed vice-captain. However, that is not likely to occur. According to a report from the Times of India, the ODI leadership group for the forthcoming tournament may change. India's vice-captain for the 2025 Champions Trophy would be Jasprit Bumrah, according to TOI. He has previously been a member of the ODI leadership group. Early in 2022, Bumrah helped KL Rahul in the ODI series against South Africa. In 2023, he played his first match as a T20I captain against Ireland.

Since 2022, Bumrah has been a member of the Test cricket leadership group. In the one-off Test match against England, he made his debut as captain. In two Test matches in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which came to an end on Sunday (January 5), Bumrah captained India. This week, the BCCI is probably going to reveal the team for the Champions Trophy and the England series. It appears that Bumrah will be rested for the majority of the England series.
Bumrah suffered a back spasm during the final Test after which he did not even bowl in the final innings. However, there is yet no update on the severity of his injury. BCCI and its medical team will have a close eye on the premium pacer.
