Afghanistan batter Ibrahim Zadran is one of the reasons behind the team's historic ICC Champions Trophy 2025 win against England. Afghanistan who are playing their maiden Champions Trophy registered their first win of the tournament against England.
Zadran suffered an ankle injury in September last year for which he had to undergo surgery. In a post on his social media handle, Zadran shared a few pictures and videos where he was seen walking on crutches while trying to recover from injury. Zadran who broke a plethora of records during his 177-run knock against England in a do-or-die Champions Trophy clash took his social media to praise fans and his nation (Afghanistan) for their support.
"Being away from the game for months was one of the toughest challenges I've faced, but I promised you all that I would return stronger, hungrier, and more determined than ever. Alhamdulillah, today was a step in that journey. This inning means so much to me, but even more special was the spirit the team showed. Azmat's all-round brilliance was the difference when it mattered most" wrote Zadran
"I am truly humbled by the support you've all shown me and the team. Moments like these remind me of why we play: for each other, for our people, for Afghanistan. Every win, every milestone-it's all for you. Your love and support mean everything. Afghanistan Zindabad!" Zadran added.
After opting to bat, Afghanistan were off to a bad start as the side lost three wickets in the powerplay but Zadran dominated England by smashing the highest individual score in the history of the Champions Trophy helped the side to score 325 runs.
While coming to bowl, Azmatullah Omarzai picked up a fifer as Afghanistan defeated England by eight runs in a last-over thriller at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Afghanistan will now face Australia for their third group stage match which will take place on February 289 at the same venue.
