Tensions flared during the Champions Trophy 2025 final between India and New Zealand at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on March 9, as Men in Blue's captain Rohit Sharma was spotted angrily shouting at Varun Chakravarthy.
Rohit Sharma fumes at Varun Chakravarthy for skipping Team huddle
The incident occurred during a India's team huddle, where Rohit Sharma was delivering an animated pep talk to motivate his squad against New Zealand. However, Varun Chakravarthy's absence from the huddle triggered Rohit's ire, prompting the India captain to vehemently call the mystery spinner to join the group. Rohit's animated reaction quickly spread across social media.
The moment of discord unfolded during a drinks break after the 15th over of the match. Prior to this, Chakravarthy had experienced a frustrating over, having twice been denied the wicket of New Zealand's Rachin Ravindra.

Talking about the match, New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat first against India. While India didn't make any change to their playing XI, New Zealand were forced to make one big change. Nathan Smith replaced the injured Matt Henry in New Zealand's playing XI. Henry is the same bowler who dismantled India's batting line-up with a fiery fifer in New Zealand's losing cause in the Champions Trophy group stage match.
New Zealand got off to a decent start as Will Young (15) and Rachin Ravindra (37) together stitched a fiery 57-run opening partnership before Varun Chakravarthy gave India the first breakthrough. Wicket kept on tumbling as India's spin troika of Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy and Ravindra Jadeja break New Zealand's back to leave them teetering at 178/5 as of 42 overs. However, Daryl Mitchell (50*) is still on the crease, trying to bail out New Zealand from the precarious position.
