India's vice captain Shubman Gill turned up for the press conference ahead of the all-important Champions Trophy final against New Zealand which is scheduled to be played on March 9 at the Dubai International stadium. Champions Trophy title clash against New Zealand will be Shubman Gill's second appearance in the final. Gill ended up on the losing side in his first final when India suffered a heartbreaking loss to Australia in the ODI World Cup 2023 final. However, this time Gill will have a chance for redemption when he will be up against the Kiwis with a big responsibility on his shoulder in the role of Rohit Sharma's deputy.
Gill said that he is excited for the big match and vowed to better the fortunes from last time by winning the Champions Trophy title.
"I am quite excited. This is my second final. I would like to better the fortunes from last time. I would like to win the Champions Trophy," Gill said in the pre-match press conference on March 8.
Gill also admitted that this is the best batting line-up that he has been part of and went on to reveal his ODI great by making a tough choice between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
"This is the best best batting line-up that I have been a part of. Rohit is one of the ODI greats, and Virat is Virat," Gill added.
India's vice captain didn't rule out the big game pressure but did make it clear that whoever deals with it better will end up winning the title.
"There is definitely pressure for big match. Whoever deals with it better wins. Say like Windies team from yesteryears, Australia in 2000s, they would take themselves out of that pressure and play the game. It is easy to say, very difficult to do. Whenever a pressure comes in, it has a tendency to build up in your mind," he concluded.
India will certainly have a psychological advantage entering into the Champions Trophy, having already defeated New Zealand in the group stage itself. However, Kiwis are no less as they have proved their dominance in the ongoing tournament with their top notch all-round show, be it batting, bowling or fielding.
