Shubman Gill starred on his County Championship debut for Glamorgan. Gill did not just score a half-century but saved Glamorgan from a batting collapse on a day where rain played spoilsport.

Instead of opening the innings -- which he usually does in red-ball cricket --- Gill bated at no.3. After skipper David Lloyd got out for a single-digit score in the fourth over, Gill shared an 82-run partnership for the second wicket with Edward Byrom. The opener scored 67 runs from 92 deliveries before getting out in the 23rd over.

After Byrom's wicket, Glamorgan middle-order batters Timm van der Gugten (18) and Sam Northeast got decent starts but could not convert into a big score. In the 38th over, Worcestershire pacer Dillon Pennington struck twice and got the wickets of Northeast and Kiran Carlson off consecutive deliveries. Carlson got out for a golden duck as Glamorgan were reduced to 146/5.

Former England Test skipper Joe Root's brother Billy came to the crease and brought some calmness in the middle. Before rain interrupted Day 3's proceedings, Billy and Gill did some damage control. During the sixth-wicket partnership Gill got to his maiden half-century in County Cricket.

The Day 3โs play resumed at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff and Gill mostly dealt in singles and doubles after the break. He scored 92 runs from 148 deliveries including eight fours and one six. He got out leg before wicket to Ed Barnard and missed his hundred.ย

The 22-year-old missed the opportunity to breach the three figures and will become the fourth Indian batter to do so on County debut. However, his knock helped Glamorgan post 241/8 at the end of Day 3 and reduce the trail to 213 runs.ย

Earlier, Worcestershire posted a huge total of 454/9 before declaring the innings. Gareth Roderick was the top-scorer for Worcestershire. He remained not out for 172 runs from 348 deliveries including 22 fours. Apart from Roderick, Ed Pollock (54), Barnard (75) and Joe Leach (87) scored their respective half-centuries.
