WI vs ENG: Ben Stokes completes 5000 runs in Tests; joins Kapil Dev, Ian Botham in elite list

England all-rounder Ben Stokes scored a terrific century (120 runs off 128 balls) against West Indies in the first innings of the second Test to help his side in posting a huge total of 507/9 (declared) and with this century, Stokes became a part of an elite list comprised of cricketers who scored more than 5000 runs and picked up 100 or more wickets in Test cricket.

Ben's superb knock

Stokes smashed 11 boundaries and 6 sixes to score a quick-fire 120 off 128 balls. The English all-rounder reached his 11th Test hundred off just 114 balls.


Previously, England skipper Joe Root played a brilliant innings of 153 runs off 316 deliveries. Later, wicketkeeper Ben Foakes (33 runs off 64 balls) and Chris Woakes (41 runs off 57 balls) showed solid batting skills to help their side in reaching a mammoth total. 


For West Indies, their left-arm bowler Veerasammy Permaul picked up three wickets as other pacer Kemar Roach scalped two wickets. Alzarri Joseph, Jayden Seales, Jason Holder and Kraigg Brathwaite picked up one wicket each.


In reply, West Indies lost their opening batter in the second over of their first innings as John Campbell departed scoring just 4 runs off 2 balls. Matthew Fisher bagged one wicket for the England side on Day Two of the second Test match.


The hosts ended the second day’s play at 71/1. Opener Brathwaite (28 not out off 79 balls) and Shamarh Brooks (31 not out off 83 balls) are currently batting for the hosts.


Previously, the first Test match between the two teams had resulted in a draw. After the completion of the second Test match, two teams will take on each other in the third and final Test match of the series on March 24.
