Jason Roy was one of the top-run scorers for England in ODI World Cup 2019.Harry Brook is yet to deliver consistent performances in the ODI format.

After Jos Buttler-led side’s 3-1 win in ODI series against New Zealand, England Cricket Board (ECB) has announced the 15-member squad for the upcoming World Cup 2023 in India. ECB made one major change in the squad as Jason Roy did not find a place and Harry Brook who did not have much success against New Zealand in the recently-concluded series was included.

England men’s cricket team’s national selector is confident that the defending champions will excel on Indian pitches as he said, “We have selected a squad we are confident can go to India and win the World Cup.

“We are blessed with an incredibly strong group of white-ball players which was underlined by the performances in the series win against a very good New Zealand team.

“The strength of the group has meant that we have had to make some tough decisions on world-class players with Jason Roy missing out and Harry Brook coming into the squad.”

Roy was one of the top run-scorers for England in the previous edition. The veteran opener had scored 443 runs from seven innings at an average of 63.29 including one century and four half-centuries.

Meanwhile, Brook was included in the ODI squad after Roy suffered back spasms. The 24-year-old was unimpressive in the ODI series against Tom Latham-led New Zealand. He scored 37 runs from three innings. So far, he has played a total of six ODIs and scored 123 runs at an average of 20.50 including a 80-run knock against South Africa earlier this year.

England will begin their World Cup campaign against New Zealand on October 5 at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

England World Cup squad: Jos Buttler (captain), Moeen Ali, Gus Atkinson, Jonny Bairstow, Harry Brook, Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Reece Topley, David Willey, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood
