England's bowling all-rounder Chris Woakes revealed that the whole team is low on confidence and that has been the reason behind their horrendous run in the ongoing World Cup 2023. After a 100-run loss to Rohit Sharma's India in Lucknow, the defending champions stayed at the bottom of the points table with just one win from six games.
"If we could buy some confidence at the minute we would spend a lot of money on it. It's hard to bottle that up. When you haven't got confidence, then you tend to play some rash shots or make some indecisions," said Woakes in a conversation with Sky Sports after the match.

Chasing a target of 230, England were bowled out for 129 in 34.5 overs. In hindsight, Woakes feels that the run chase needed a more sensible approach and taking the game deep.
"It's easy to look back in hindsight and say we should maybe have gone more tentative or more sensible. We need to build partnerships to get close to that score and we didn't do it," Woakes added.
After Jos Buttler won the toss and opted to field first, Woakes was exceptional with the new ball. He was economical and got the wickets of Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer to reduce India to 40/3 in the 12th over. He conceded just 33 runs from nine overs he bowled including a maiden.
In the run chase, he walked in to bat after England lost six wickets for 81 in the 24th over. He tried to absorb the pressure with Liam Livingstone at the other end. But he went down the track against left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja and got out stumped. He scored just 10 runs from 20 balls.
The 34-year-old has played a total of five games in the ongoing World Cup so far. He went wicketless against New Zealand, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka. He picked up two wickets in England's only win in the tournament. With the bat, he has scored just 44 runs from five innings.
England will take on five-time champions Australia in their next match at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad in an attempt to stay alive in the race of Champions Trophy 2025 qualification.
