In the midst of the Cricket World Cup 2023 festivities, Pakistan's wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan reflected on the team's heartwarming reception upon their arrival in Hyderabad on Wednesday, September 27. Rizwan's comments came after he showcased his exemplary skills by scoring a century in Pakistan's first World Cup 2023 warm-up game. This match was conducted behind closed doors at Hyderabad's prestigious Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on September 29.

Elaborating on the team's welcome, Rizwan shared that both players and the support staff were overwhelmed by the love and warmth showered upon them in Hyderabad. Fans in large numbers congregated at the airport to welcome the Pakistani team, signifying the unifying power of sports. Further amplifying the special treatment, the team members were greeted with traditional shawls at their hotel, symbolizing the rich cultural essence of India.

"People at the airport gave us a lot of love. We got same love that we get in Lahore, Karachi and Peshawar," Rizwan said.

This amiable reception did not go unnoticed, with several Pakistan players, including speedster Shaheen Afridi, taking to social media to express their gratitude for the unparalleled hospitality. This visit is especially significant since it marks the first instance of a senior Pakistan men's cricket team visiting India since 2016 when they participated in the T20 World Cup under the leadership of Shahid Afridi.

In the warm-up match itself, Rizwan stood out with his impeccable batting prowess. Clocking a century with 103 runs off just 94 balls, he dominated the field while batting at No. 4 against New Zealand. His innings was adorned with 2 sixes and 9 boundaries. Alongside this, he and Pakistan's skipper Babar Azam constructed a formidable 114-run partnership. Their aggressive stance helped the team recover after early losses of Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq.

While Babar's commendable innings ended with a score of 80 in the 30th over, Rizwan persisted, achieving his century. However, he later retired hurt in this unofficial international match, where teams had the flexibility to use all of their 15 players.
