Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan won the all-important toss and elected to field in the ODI World Cup 2023 contest against England at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on October 10 (Tuesday). Shakib made one change to the playing XI that featured against Afghanistan. Mahedi Hasan replaced veteran Mahmudullah in Bangladesh's playing XI. Jos Buttler also made one change by including Reece Topley in the XI in place of Moeen Ali. Ben Stokes continues to be on the sidelines.

England and Bangladesh have had a contrasting start to their ODI World Cup campaigns. While the defending champions England were handed a brutal reality check by New Zealand, Bangladesh outmuscled Afghanistan with a brilliant all-round performance. The Three Lions were beaten by a huge margin of nine wickets by the Blackcaps which ultimately had an adverse effect on their Net Run Rate (NRR). Shakib Al Hasan's men defeated Afghanistan by six wickets and began their campaign in the best-possible manner.
