Bangladesh's cricket captain, Shakib Al Hasan, has rejoined the national squad in Kolkata ahead of their upcoming World Cup 2023 match against the Netherlands. The Bangladesh team, facing virtual elimination from the semifinals race after four consecutive losses, is scheduled to meet the Netherlands in a bottom-of-the-table clash at the iconic Eden Gardens on Saturday.

Interestingly, Shakib Al Hasan's form has become a topic of concern among fans and observers. Following a training session at the Mirpur Stadium on Thursday, spectators expressed their disappointment with Shakib's performance. Fans in attendance during the net practice session observed Shakib's struggles, highlighting the surprising opposition and scrutiny that has arisen around the star player, even within his own nation. Shakib has had a history of disagreements with cricket board officials due to his previous departures from the national camp.
In contrast, the rest of the Bangladesh team had already arrived in Kolkata on Wednesday night, with Shakib initially scheduled to rejoin the squad on Friday evening ahead of the Netherlands match. However, circumstances prompted Shakib's early return on Thursday night, although he did not participate in team practice on that day. It is expected that Shakib will be part of the lineup for the Netherlands match on Saturday and will join the team's practice session on Friday.
During an optional practice session on Thursday, only eight players from the team attended the evening session at Eden Gardens. Mushfiqur Rahim was seen working on his batting skills in the nets alongside pace bowler Taskin Ahmed, who is anticipated to feature in the upcoming match against the Netherlands. The remaining players were granted a day off, and some, including Mustafizur Rahman, were spotted exploring various locations in Kolkata and savoring the city's renowned Hilsa fish at local restaurants.
Bangladesh, currently holding two points from five matches, has a busy schedule ahead in the World Cup 2023. They will compete in a second match at Eden Gardens against Pakistan on October 31, followed by matches in New Delhi against Sri Lanka on November 6 and in Pune against Australia on November 11, marking the conclusion of their campaign in the tournament.
