While commentating in the South Africa vs New Zealand's match Pollock said that Boult might be looking for ‘sandpaper’ to facilitate some swing.

Notably, New Zealand won the toss and put Temba Bavuma's brigade to bat first. However Tom Latham's decision to bowl first didn't sit well as South African batters took New Zealand's bowler to cleaners and posted a big total of 357/4.

Pollock question Latham's decision to place slips despite the ball wasn't offering much swing on the wicket. He padded his comments by saying that Boult might be looking for 'sandpaper; to generate some swing.

“Latham is keeping those two slips in place. They are into the seventh over. Boult gets early swing but he hasn’t got much. Maybe he’s looking for sandpaper, just to clip off a little bit of edge,” Shaun Pollock said on air.

Right after Pollock's shocking statement Boult ended up dismissing South Africa skipper Bavuma in the very next over. Bavuma played a careless shot, leading to Daryl Mitchell catching it in the slips. New Zealand have missed the presence of speedster Lockie Ferguson because of an Achilles injury. His absence has notably affected the team's bowling prowess. The Black Caps struggled to take wickets in the middle overs, specifically between the 11th and 40th overs which allowed South African batters to play freely and post a big total on the board. Boult returned with a decent spell of 1/49. Meanwhile, it was Quinton de Kock and Rassie Van der Dussen's brilliant centuries which propelled South Africa to a towering total.

South Africa's Playing XI: Quinton de Kock(w), Temba Bavuma(c), Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Marco Jansen, Gerald Coetzee, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi

New Zealand's Playing XI: Devon Conway, Will Young, Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Latham(w/c), Glenn Phillips, James Neesham, Mitchell Santner, Matt Henry, Tim Southee, Trent Boult.
