Bangladesh pacer Shoriful Islam celebrate a wicket vs South Africa in the World Cup 2023.

Highlights:

Bangladesh were asked to bowl first after South Africa's stand-in skipper Aiden Markram won the toss and chose to bat first.

Bangladesh pacer Shoriful Islam got the first wicket for his country as they got off to a great start against South Africa at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday, October 24. He bowled Reeza Hendricks with a beautiful inswinger as the ball crashed through the small space to hit the middle and off stump, with Hendricks looking to defend.

After the wicket, Islam was obviously ecstatic at the wicket. He burst into a dance, which looked very similar to a move by Hrithik Roshan from the movie 'Kaho na pyaar hai.'

It was not the first South African wicket to fall early on in the match. Soon after Hendricks, Mehidy Hasan Miraz managed to trap Rassie van der Dussen in front of the wicket in the very next over to peg the Proteas back further, slipping from 33-0 to 36-2.

By the end of 20 overs, South Africa’s score read 99-2 as Aiden Markram and de Kock looked to rebuild the innings.

Bangladesh will be looking to end their losing streak but face a very tough challenge against an in-form South Africa at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday, October 24. The Proteas thrashed England to recover from their only loss of the tournament against the Netherlands while Bangladesh have not added points to their tally after beating Afghanistan in their first game of the tournament.

Earlier, Bangladesh were asked to bowl first after South Africa's stand-in skipper Aiden Markram won the toss and chose to bat first. Speaking upon his return, Bangladesh skipper Shakib said, "Hridoy is not playing, I come in the team for him. Today is an important game, we have to play our best cricket to win against SA. I don't mind bowling first. If we restrict them to a reasonable total, we can chase it down."

Markram mentioned that Ngidi will miss out due to an injury. “Trying to approach in a similar way to the English game. It's really hot. It took a toll on everyone, it's advantage fielding in the evening. It proves that anyone can beat anyone. We took lesson from that Netherlands game, it's a new day today. We need to try and repeat the same thing. Ngidi has a niggle, he misses out, Lizaad comes in.”
