On Tuesday, November 7, fans at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai witnessed history in the making after star Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell smashed a historic double century to rescue the five-time champions Australia and take them to the win against Afghanistan.
Chasing a target of 292, Australia's initial struggle at 91 for seven wickets was negated by Glenn Maxwell following his remarkable unbeaten 201 against Afghanistan. With cramps plaguing him but not affecting his performance, he remarkably struck 21 fours and 10 sixes, with his final six coming off the very last ball of the match.
Achieving a double century in just 128 balls, he set the record for the highest individual score in a Cricket World Cup chase.

Former India legend Sachin Tendulkar, shared his appreciation at the achievement, saying, it was one of the best ODI knocks he had seen in his life.
Meanwhile, a video of Maxwell from his time at Mumbai Indians is now doing the rounds on the internet. The Australian who used to play under Sachin Tendulkar in the Indian Premier League 2013 season, is seen imitating the Indian batting legend.
The comments section were flooded in support of Maxwell's magical knock. "What a time to be alive. To experience this innings," read one comment. "I can watch Sachin play these beautiful shots for whole day, The greatest ever to hold a bat," read another comment.
Sharing his thoughts on the innings, Maxwell was surprisingly not too satisfied with the double century. Speaking to the broadcasters, Maxwell shared, "Although I had my fair share of chances, I am proud of making the most of them tonight. I regret not having exercised enough in the heat, which led to my struggles with cramps during the game."
He also revealed his efforts to recover, “Given the conditions today, I felt the impact of the heat while fielding. I plan to take some time to recuperate and ensure I get the necessary movement to prevent such issues in the future.”
