Australian cricketer Usman Khawaja congratulated the Afghanistan cricket team for their massive 21-run win against Australia in match 48 of the ongoing edition of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Arnos Vale Ground in St Vincent, on June 23 (Sunday). He even expressed how disheartening it is that they do not get to compete with them in bilateral contests.
Usman Khawaja's message for Afghanistan
Khawaja wrote about the Afghanistan team's great performance against the Aussies. He congratulated the Asian side and that they are an inspiration to countless people. He even highlighted how the Afghanistan players are not seen playing in Australia.
“Well done Brother. Better team on the day. You boys are an inspiration for so many back home and abroad. So sad we can't see you all play in Australia,” Khawaj captioned Rashid Khan's post after resharing it from his official ‘X’ account formerly known as Twitter.
Afghanistan eye semi-final spot
Afghanistan 148/6 in 20 overs while batting first. This looked like a low score considering the start that Afghan openers provided with their century stand but constant wickets in the death overs restricted them from reaching a big total. However, even this turned out to be too much for Australia as their batting collapsed in front of Afghan bowlers. Maxwell tried to fight back again and scored a valiant half-century but it was just not enough this time.
The Afghanistan team is now one of the top contenders in the race for qualification to the semi-finals. They have already caused some big upsets in this tournament by beating teams like NZ and AUS, even qualifying for the Super 8. Now if they manage to to seal their spot in the semis, it would be another great chapter in their young cricketing history. Their win against Aussies has changed the scenario of Group 1. If both India and Afghanistan win their next match, Australia will be out of the T20 World Cup 2024.
