Rising star Rinku Singh, who has impressed fans with his explosive batting and fielding for both the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the Indian Cricket Team T20Is, was noticeably absent from the field during KKR's bowling in their IPL 2024's clash against Rajasthan Royals on April 16. This has given Team India a major injury scare, especially with upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 which is set to start from June 2.
Rinku Singh gives massive injury scare to KKR and Team India
During the recent IPL 2024 match between KKR and RR match at Eden Gardens on April 16, the team's fielding coach, Ryan ten Doeschate, provided an update on Rinku's absence. He confirmed that the southpaw batter has been battling a side injury, which has unfortunately limited his fielding ability.
The KKR management prioritises Rinku's full recovery and has emphasised that he will only return to fielding duties once he's completely healthy. This means fans will have to wait a bit longer to see Rinku showcase his all-around talents on the field.
“Rinku Singh is carrying a slight side injury. He is not fully fit and we want to give him some rest, once he is fully recovered, he will back on the ground as fielder,” said Ryan ten Doeschate, as quoted by Times Now.
Rinku Singh talks about his injury
Following Kolkata Knight Riders' loss to Rajasthan Royals, Rinku Singh addressed concerns about his absence from the field. He confirmed experiencing a niggling side injury but expressed his determination to be back in action for KKR's next match. This crucial home game against the struggling Royal Challengers Bangalore takes place on April 21, 2024. Rinku's return to full fitness will be a welcome boost for the Knights as they look to bounce back from their recent defeat.
“I had a bit of niggle so I wasn’t able to field. The next match on 21, I will do proper fielding,” Rinku Singh said.
Talking about the KKR versus RR match, Shreyas Iyer-led Kolkata rode on Sunil Narine's brilliant century to post a colossal target of 224 runs. In reply, dampening Narine's effort, Jos Buttler rose to the occasion once again and hammered a blistering ton to help RR chase down the big target with two wickets to spare.
