India got the better of South Africa in T20 World Cup final to end their 11-year-long ICC trophy drought.

Indian cricket fans erupted in celebration as their team clinched the T20 World Cup 2024 title in the Caribbean. This victory, masterminded by captain Rohit Sharma in his final T20I match, marked India's second World Cup triumph in the shortest format and ended a long wait for an ICC title. Team India, led by a stellar performance from Virat Kohli, dominated South Africa by seven runs in a thrilling final at Kensington Oval. The historic win resonated far and wide, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally congratulating the team on a phone call. The victory was bittersweet, however, as it marked the retirement of two legends - Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli - from T20I cricket. While Rohit will continue to lead India in Test and ODI formats, the T20 World Cup final was his last hurrah in the shortest format.

“Dear @ImRo45, You are excellence personified. Your aggressive mindset, batting and captaincy has given a new dimension to the Indian team. Your T20 career will be remembered fondly. Delighted to have spoken to you earlier today,” PM Modi said.

Rohit also took to X to respond to Modi's post and expressed his gratitude to the Indian Prime Minister for his kind words.

“Thank you so much @narendramodi sir for your kind words. The team and I are very proud to be able to bring the cup home and are truly touched by how much happiness it has brought everyone back home,” Rohit said.

Dominant India claim T20 World Cup title and sweep ICC Team of the Tournament

India's cricket team capped off a remarkable T20 World Cup campaign by clinching the trophy without a single defeat. This historic feat was further celebrated with the BCCI awarding a ₹125 crore bonus to the team. Adding to the glory, the ICC recognised India's exceptional performance by selecting a whopping six Indian players in their prestigious ‘Team of the Tournament’. This prestigious list, which was sans Virat Kohli, included captain Rohit Sharma, alongside Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, and Arshdeep Singh.
