'Sorry to all the well-wishers of Nepal Cricket': Sandeep Lamichhane breaks silence after US visa denial ahead of T20 World Cup 2024

Nepal Cricket was keen to add their star player Sandeep Lamichhane in the T20 World Cup 2024 squad which is scheduled to start from June 02 and will be played in USA and West Indies.

Highlights:

Sandeep Lamichhane was alleged of raping an 18-year-old woman in December 2023.

Lamichhane was sacked from Nepal cricket captaincy in September 2022 amid rape accusations.

He was proven innocent by Nepal High Court last week.

Former Nepal captain Sandeep Lamichhane opened up after US embassy in Nepal denied his visa for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 which is scheduled to be played in USA and West Indies. This will be Nepal's second apperance in the World Cup, they will face Netherlands in their opener clash which is scheduled to be played in Dallas on June 4.

 

Lamichhane was in jail as he was accused for raping a young woman in a Kathmandu hotel in 2022 but Nepal Court decaled him innocent earlier this month. Nepal star cricketer is fit to play in the marquee event in USA and West Indies and he was keen to represent his nation in the World Cup.  Nepal Cricket was also seen intrested to add him in the squad but US embassy denied his visa.

Lamichhane took his 'X' to reveal that he is unlikely to availabe for the World Cup amid visa issue.

“The @USEmbassyNepal did it again, just like in 2019, denying my visa for the T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies. Unfortunate. I am sorry to all the well-wishers of Nepal Cricket,” Lamichhane posted on X, referencing a previous visa denial in 2019 when he aimed to compete in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Before tournament Nepal will play two warmup matches against Canada and co-hosts USA.

Sandeep Lamichhane's Cricket Career

 

Lamichhane got 98 wickets in his 50 T20I outings and in ODIs former Nepal skipper got 112 scalps in 51 ODIs. Lamichhane also featured in the Indian Premier League he was the part of Delhi Capitals in 2018 and 2019 where he picked 5 and 8 wickets respectively.
