First super over in T20 World Cup after 12 years.

David Wiese's heroics in super over seal the win for Namibia.

Gerhard Erasmus-led Namibia defeated Aqib Ilyas' Oman by 11 runs in the super over in match 3 of the ongoing edition of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Kensington Oval in Barbados, on June 3. This was a low-scoring thriller that could not get to the result even by the very last over. Despite bowling out Oman on the paltry score of 109 runs, Namibia failed to chase it down, and as a result, the match went to the super over, the first one of this season. This was also the first super over in the T20 World Cup after 12 years.

Namibia bowl out Oman on 109 runs

Namibia won the toss and elected to bowl first. They dominated Oman with the ball completely and bowled them out on just 109 runs. First, it was Ruben Trumpelmann who sent Oman's top order back to the pavilion by the third over itself. He finished with a total of four wickets and got great support from David Wiese who grabbed three wickets and Gerhard Erasmus with two scalps. Meanwhile, Bernard Scholtz also took one wicket.

Oman's astonishing fightback with ball

Just when everything seemed lost for Oman, their bowlers wrote the story of one of the most iconic comebacks. From Bilal Khan striking on the second ball of the innings to Mehran Khan's masterclass spell of 3 overs in which he took three big wickets and gave away only 7 runs. It was him in the 20th over of the Namibian innings that helped Oman defend 5 runs in the final over. NAM needed 2 off the final ball but a run-out miss from Naseem Khushi on the final ball forced a super over.

Super Over after 12 years

T20 World Cup 2024 witnessed a super over after 12 years. The last one took place between New Zealand and West Indies back in 2012. Namibia batted first in the super over and got off to a blazing start as David Wiese hit a four and six on the first two balls against Bilal Khan. Then captain Erasmus hit back-2-back boundaries to end the over and helped Namibia post 21 runs. David Wiese then did the job with the ball as well and didn't allow Oman to make another comeback in the match and won it for his team by 11 runs.
