Team India along with South Africa and Australia are the first teams to seal their spot in the Super 8 stage of the ongoing edition of the T20 World Cup 2024. The Men in Blue's win over co-hosts United States ensured their qualification in the next round of the competition. Before them, Aussies and Proteas qualified as well. As both India and Australia are in the same group, they will collide against each other in the Super 8 stage.
Possible schedule for Super 8
The top two teams from each group will qualify for the Super 8 stage and these eight teams will again be divided into two groups (1 and 2). Teams have already been given seeds in Super 8. ICC has given seeds to two teams of each group. However, If any of the eight seeded teams do not reach the Super 8, thier place will be taken by the unseeded team that qualifies.
ICC has made eight-seeded teams to make scheduling easier. If all of the seeded sides qualify for the Super 8 round, the two groups would possibly appear like this
Group 1: India (A1), Australia (B2), New Zealand (C1), Sri Lanka (D2)
Group 2: Pakistan (A2), England (B1), West Indies (C2), South Africa (D1)
However, if an unseeded team qualifies for the Super 8s, they will replace the group they took out. For example -as Sri Lanka has already been eliminated after losing two games and one of their matches getting washed out, its seeded spot would most probably be taken by the Netherlands or Bangladesh, depending on whoever finishes in the top two of Group D rather than the Lankan Lions.
