Nearly two weeks after T20 World Cup 2024 triumph in Barbados, the celebrations continue in India as players and coaches return to their respective hometowns. On July 8, head coach Rahul Dravid got a grand welcome from the kids at a cricket academy in Bengaluru. The 51-year-old helped India end their ICC trophy drought and the final jinx as they beat South Africa by seven runs.
 

In the video, that is going viral on social media, Dravid is getting felicitated at the academy followed by kids welcoming him with a guard of honour.

Dravid’s stunning revelation after T20 World Cup final win

After the T20 World Cup 2024 win, Dravid in his dressing room speech laid bare his emotions. He recalled when he was ready to end his tenure as head coach but skipper Rohit Sharma’s call after ODI World Cup 2023 final loss changed his mind. 
 

“I mean, I wasn't sure if I was going to continue after the 50-Over World Cup, and obviously, there was a great joy of having had a fantastic campaign but also a little bit of disappointment in the final that we could not get over the line,” Dravid said.

"For Rohit to pick up the phone and say, 'Rahul, let's have one more crack at it in six or eight months' time. It will be lovely to have a crack at it together'. I am so thankful because I had the chance to work with an exceptionally great bunch of boys. But also experience what I have experienced in Barbados and to experience what I have done here. Truly grateful and probably one of the best phone calls that I have received in my life," the former Indian captain added.

Dravid wants to move on quickly

Dravid had also joked about him being unemployed after the T20 World Cup 2024. He does not want to think too far ahead and enjoy the time off with his family. 
 

“I will be able to move on quickly from this win, next week I will be unemployed (laughs). I don't want to think too far ahead, but yes, I hope, I will be able to move on. I think that's what life is all about,” he said. 
 

Dravid has been rewarded by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). From the Rs 125 crore prize money, he will get Rs 2.5 crore.
