India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav took a brutal indirect dig at Asian Cricket Council president Mohsin Naqvi, who also serves as the Pakistan Cricket Board chief and Pakistan’s interior minister, after the Men in Blue wrapped up their five-match T20I series against Australia with a 2–1 victory.
Why Suryakumar Yadav took a brutal dig at Mohsin Naqvi?
Naqvi ran away with India's Asia Cup trophy and players' medals after India defeated Pakistan in the Asia Cup final to clinch the title, and the Suryakumar Yadav-led side celebrated their win without the trophy. Suryakumar also congratulated the Indian women’s team on their maiden World Cup triumph.
“It feels great to finally get to touch the trophy. Felt it in my hands, when I was handed over the trophy for the series victory. A few days back another trophy arrived in India our women’s team has won the World Cup. That trophy has also arrived back home. It feels great and getting to touching this trophy as well feels good,” said Suryakumar in the post-match press conference.
What's happening in the Asia Cup trophy Row?
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said that they’re in constant talks with the PCB and the two cricketing bodies have managed to "break the ice" on the Asia Cup trophy dispute and will work towards finding a plausible solution in the coming days.
Saikia revealed that during the course of the recent formal ICC meeting, the Asia Cup trophy controversy was not on the agenda, but ICC facilitated a meeting between me and the PCB chief separately in the presence of a senior ICC office-bearer and another senior official.
"It was really good to start the process of negotiation. Both sides cordially participated in the meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the ICC board meeting. Definitely, in the coming times, if things go in a positive way, the issue will be sorted at the earliest," Saikia told PTI.
Where is Asia Cup trophy?
The Asia Cup trophy is currently in the ACC headquarters in Dubai, with the staff there instructed by Naqvi not to move it without his permission. Naqvi had insisted that the Indians would have to accept the top prize from him, which was denied by the Suryakumar Yadav-led side.
