Legendary South Africa cricketer AB de Villiers believes that Abhishek Sharma will prosper in the upcoming five-match T20I series against Australia as he enjoys batting on bouncy pitches. This comes after the left-hand batter starred for the Men in Blue in Asia Cup 2025 and finished as the tournament's highest scorer with 314 runs under his name. He provided the team with multiple strong starts during the competition and was one of the side's most important players as they won the title for the ninth time in their history.
De Villiers pointed out that Abhishek is currently in the form of his life and may very well be the best opening batter in the world. He further remarked that the 25-year-old is a 'fantastic' player to watch.
“Abhishek Sharma is in the form of the life, some are saying he is the best opening batter in the world right now in this format. Will be great to see what he can get over there in Australia. I think he will enjoy the conditions because there’s quite a bit of bounce," de Villiers said on his YouTube channel.
“He likes freeing up his arms over the off-side, opening up the blade, covering the point to third man boundary, hitting sixes over there. He can also clear up or open up the leg side as well. All-round player, fantastic batter to watch," he added.
Abhishek has been selected in India's squad for the T20I series against Australia that is set to commence from October 29. Though the left-hand batter has not been given a chance in both the ODI and Test format as of now, he has very well cemented his place in India's T20I set-up with his brilliant Asia Cup campaign.
What are Abhishek's stats in T20Is?
Abhishek has so far featured in 24 T20Is and has scored a total of 849 runs. He has scored five fifties and two centuries in the format and has also maintained an explosive strike-rate of 196.07. He will be hoping to continue his excellent form against Australia.
