India ODI captain Shubman Gill is hopeful that both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will have a successful tour against Australia. He is also aware of the vast experience that the duo will bring to the table and is eager to play with them in the upcoming ODI series that will commence from October 19.
“They’ve been playing for India for the past 10–15 years and winning matches for us. The experience that they bring to the table is something every captain or every team wants. And that’s what we are looking forward to. We just want them to go out there and do their magic," Gill said after India's 7-wicket victory over West Indies in second Test.
Gill also shared his thoughts on the upcoming ODI series against Australia and pointed out how the Men in Blue have been in exceptional form when it comes to the format for the last 2-3 years and are very excited for the tour.
“We’ve been playing some of the best ODI cricket in the past two or three years, and nothing changes for us. It’s more or less the same team that we’re playing. So, very excited to go out there and play in Australia," Gill stated.
India's squad for Australia ODIs: Shubman Gill (Captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer (VC), Axar Patel, KL Rahul (WK), Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Dhruv Jurel (WK), Yashasvi Jaiswal.
India decimate West Indies
Meanwhile, Gill captained Team India to a clean sweep over West Indies in the two-match Test series. The Men in Blue had won the first match comfortably in under three days and even though the second Test ended up going into the fifth day, Gill & Co. emerged victorious by 7 wickets at the Arun Jaitley stadium.
Where do India stand on WTC points table?
This victory saw India remain at the third position on the World Test Championship (WTC) points table, but it improved their PCT to 61.90. They are now quite close to surpassing Sri Lanka's PCT of 66.67 and replace them at the second position on the standings. The Men in Blue's next red-ball assignment will be a two-match home series against South Africa that will commence from November 14.
