A video of Gautam Gambhir practising shadowing in the dressing room went viral on social media following India's batting failure in the Gabba Test. On the third day of play (December 16), during a rain break, the TV cameras captured Gambhir picking up the bat and what appeared to be a player leaving a delivery.

With the bat, India's first innings at the Gabba Test has been a nightmare thus far. Rohit Sharma left after scoring ten runs, while Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, and Yashasvi Jaiswal all left for single-figure scores. But India now has a chance to catch up thanks to a strong 84 from KL Rahul and a brilliant knock from Ravindra Jadeja.
India's batting has struggled in the game's longest format since Gambhir took over as coach, reaching 400 only twice, neither of which came in the opening innings. In seven of the team's 14 games during this time, they have been bowled out for fewer than 200.

Cummins got rid of Rohit for the sixth time in 12 innings. His dismissal was followed by a 67-run partnership between KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja that steadied the Indian innings. Rahul who was dropped off a sitter on the first ball of the day, made the most of his reprieve from Steve Smith.
With the aid of several stunning shots, he reached 84, but Smith's amazing catch diving to his right at first slip prevented him from reaching a well-earned hundred. However, Jadeja, who is still undefeated at 65 brought India to 201/7, 244 runs behind Australia at Tea.
