Bumrah and Akash Deep stitched an unbroken 39-run partnership to save follow-on in Gabba Test.

Former India head coach Sanjay Bangar lavished praise on Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep for their stand to help Rohit Sharma-led side save the follow-on in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 third Test taking place at Gabba stadium. He also explained that now it would be difficult for Australia as Josh Hazlewood ruled out of the remainder of the series.

Akash Deep joined Bumrah where India were in a spot of bother and needed  33 runs to avoid the follow-on with just a wicket in hand. The duo stitched an unbroken 39-run partnership as Team India ended Day 4 at 252/9 in their first innings in Brisbane.

"It is a massive moment in this game because if the follow-on had been enforced, Australia would have had the chance to get the Indian team out again. However, it would have been difficult for sure because they don't have a bowler like (Josh) Hazlewood. They (Deep and Bumrah) showed incredible commitment and resolve," said Bangar on Star Sports.

"We got to see the never-say-die attitude from Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep, and they batted with great control. They defended well and played big shots when it was required. The running between the wickets was excellent. They never lost their composure. It shows how much belief this team has and this team is not going to accept defeat easily," the former India all-rounder added.

India wicketkeeper batter KL Rahul was the highest run-getter for the visitors scoring 84 runs in the Gabba Test of the ongoing five-Test match series against Australia and apart from KL, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja scored 77 runs. Team India are facing Australia in third Test match after losing the second Test match by 10 wickets in Adelaide. The ongoing Test series is important for India to seal their series in the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) final set to take place in England next year.
