Jasprit Bumrah surpassed Ravichandran Ashwin on his retirement day, breaks this big record from legendary all-rounder during Gabba Test

Following the third Test match between India and Australia in Brisbane, Ravichandran Ashwin declared his retirement from all forms of cricket, marking the end of an era in Indian cricket. On the same day that he retired, one of the many records he set during his storied career was shattered. One of the best fast bowlers in Indian history, Jasprit Bumrah, broke it.

In the third Test match against Australia, Jasprit Bumrah took six wickets in the first innings and three more in the second. As a result, he ended the match with nine wickets. As of right moment, Bumrah has taken 66 wickets in the 2023–25 World Test Championship cycle. He becomes the bowler with the most wickets in this specific WTC cycle, surpassing Ravichandran Ashwin, who has claimed 63 scalps.

Jasprit Bumrah wrote a heartfelt greeting for Ravichandran Ashwin in an emotional post on his X account. Being in the same changing room with the off-spinner was an honour and a privilege, he said. He also disclosed that he was an inspiration to him.
