India wicketkeeper batter KL Rahul revealed his plan to bat in Test cricket after he smashed 84 runs against Australia in the third Test match of Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 at Gabba stadium. KL Rahul is the only India top-order batter who managed to play a good knock as Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant got cheaply dismissed after scoring single-digit scores.
KL Rahul said that for the first 20-30 overs he leaves the ball and tries to play as tight as possible and then tries to attack Aussies with the ball gets old.
"We don't mind playing in fast & bouncy pitches but first 20-30 overs, you have to give the bowlers respect - leave the ball & play tight as possible and then really try to cash with older ball - That is my plan to bat in Test Cricket," KL Rahul told press after day 4 of Gabba Test.
KL Rahul who is playing as an opener in the Gabba Test and performed brilliantly. He is one of India's highest run-getters. The wicketkeeper batter scored 231 runs in five innings of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy where India won the first match by 295 runs and lost the second by 10 wickets. The third Test match is underway where the hosts hold the momentum.
Intrestingly, Australia's Travis Head is also following the same strategy against India where he is coming to bat after 30 overs and scoring big runs.
After KL Rahul's knock India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja who was benched during the first two Tests scored 77 runs before Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep helped India prevent a follow-on against Australia.
The 32-year-old batter also revealed that he was thinking about padding up when Jasprit Bumran and Akash Deep were batting on Day 4.
"When Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah was batting, I was thinking more about padding up and go to bat again probably, I am not sure about they would have enforced the follow on, so I was thinking about what I need to do, but good to see yours bowlers making contribution."
