Mumbai's spin bowling all-rounder Tanush Kotian is likely to join the Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team in Melbourne ahead of the fourth Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test, which will be played at the iconic MCG starting from December 26. Kotian went unsold in the recent IPL 2025 mega auction after finding no bidders for himself, but now he will have a chance to prove his mettle with the red ball and Indian colours. As per a report in Sports Star, Kotian will take a flight to Australia on Friday.
Shami not available for Border-Gavaskar Trophy
Meanwhile, star Indian pacer Mohammed Shami will not be able to join the Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team for the remaining two Tests of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. BCCI has revealed that Shami's left knee is exhibiting little swelling and he will be under medical team's supervision.
Kotian to join team as Ashwin's replacement
The whole cricketing world was in a state of shock after legendary player Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement from all forms of International cricket following the third Test of the India vs Australia series in Gabba. Kotian will be joining the team as Ashwin's replacement. Kotian just like Ashwin bowls off-spin and is a right-handed batter. He was a member of Mumbai's Vijay Hazare Trophy team in Ahmedabad.
In the Indian domestic circuit, Kotian has been among the top off-spinning all-round players. Prior to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, he was a member of the India A team, which went on tour in Australia. Kotian has played 33 first-class matches and has 101 wickets to his name. He has also amassed 1525 runs at an average of 41.21 which also includes 13 fifties and 2 centuries.
No bids in IPL 2025 mega auction
Tanush has also played in the Indian Premier League, but he has only ever played for the Rajasthan Royals that too just for one match. In 2024, he made his IPL debut and participated in just one match. Tanush Kotian was unsold in the 2025 mega auction when no bid was received.
