Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh who was the part of MS Dhoni-led ODI World Cup winning squad want Rohit Sharma to make runs in the upcoming third Test match against Australia which is scheduled to start from December 14. Rohit who joined the squad after missing the Perth Test was cheaply dismissed in his first outing scoring just nine runs in two innings during the pink ball Test against Australia in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.

Harbhajan reckons that Rohit is worried about his performance in the longest format of the game. The Indian captain is going through a lean patch of his career in the longest format of the game. Rohit has made 597 runs in 12 Tests and 23 innings at an average of 27.13, with two centuries and two fifties and best score of 131.

"As a captain, I would like Rohit Sharma to make runs. When he scores runs, he will think better and do better things. No matter how big a player is, he is always worried about his performance. There is no doubt that when a player scores runs, he makes a better decision. So, let's hope that Rohit Sharma scores some runs so that his captaincy gets better," Harbhajan Singh was quoted by Star Sports as saying.

After winning the first Test match by 295 runs in Perth, Team India failed to continue to winning momentum as Australia defeated the Rohit Sharma-led side by 10 wickets in the second Test to level the series. India batters failed to score runs in the day/night Test. Nitish Kumar Reddy was the highest run-getter scoring 84 runs in two innings. Travis Head was the Player of the Match for his 140-run knock in the first innings of the clash. Jasprit Bumrah (4/61) and Mohammed Siraj (4/98) were top bowlers for India. Ravichandran and Nitish got a wicket each.

The ongoing series is important for India to confirm their berth for the World Test Championship (WTC) final which will take place next year. India need to win all the remaining Test matches to seal their third consecutive spot in the WTC final scheduled to take place in England.
