Bumrah on captaincy

The Indian premium pacer appeared confident and said he is honoured to take up this role as he loves taking responsibility. He also talked about his style and said it is quite different from Virat and Rohit.

"It is an honour. I have my own style. Virat was different, Rohit was different. and I have my own way. It is a privilege. I don't take it as a position. I love taking responsibility," said Bumrah in the pre-match press conference

Bumrah also revealed having a conversation with Rohit regarding this and how he got a clearer vision upon arriving in the land down under.

"I spoke with Rohit earlier. But I got a little bit of clarity on leading the side after coming in here," said Bumrah.

Morkel on Bumrah's leadership

Jasprit Bumrah's leadership abilities were praised by bowling coach Morne Morkel prior to the first Test match against Australia. According to Morkel, Bumrah can provide the young pacers with guidance in the forthcoming five-match Test series.

"Jassi is a guy who immediately put his hands up and wanted the leadership role. He has been very successful in the past, he knows what to expect, and he speaks well in the dressing room. He is a guy who will lead from the front with the ball in hand and younger guys will follow him," Morkel said in the pre-match press conference.

"For him, it’s an exciting challenge ahead. But again, we have got Virat (Kohli), KL (Rahul) and a lot of experienced guys who will help him and I’m sure when he is bowling, it will bring a bit of calmness into the team. In terms of leadership and how he looks at the game, he’s a natural leader for me," Morkel added.
