Dinesh Karthik reacted to the verbal spat between Prasidh Krishna and Joe Root on Day 2 of Oval Test

Krishna and Root were involved in a heated exchange at The Oval

Prasidh Krishna and Joe Root had a tense moment on the field during the second day of the Oval Test. The duo were involved in a heated exchange which required the umpires stepping in to intervene. After scoring a boundary in the 22nd, Root exchanged a few words with Krishna. The England batter didn't look amused at all with what the Indian pacer said to him..

Though the duo's interactions weren't recorded on the stump mic, former India cricketer Dinesh Karthik tried to decode the conversation. He remarked that he hadn't seen Root react that way ever and further stated that Krishna didn't back down from the argument either.

“I genuinely wouldn't know at this point. I really want to find out. I haven't seen Joe Root react that way. He said something, which irked Root a bit, because he isn't the one to react. He made it sound like, 'don't try to be too smart here'. Things started there, and Prasidh Krishna didn't back down,” Karthik told Sky Sports Cricket.

“By then, a couple of wickets had fallen, and it kind of went on to pick after that. That was a session which told you everything about this series. England had it there in the first session, but India pulled it back in such a way that they were in as good position as England were," he added.

Prasidh gave his verdict on the argument

Following the conclusion of Day 2, Prasidh opened up about his heated moment with Root and stated that it wasn't a big deal by any means. He even referred to the England batter as his 'good mate' and hinted that getting into an argument with him wasn't exactly an accident.

“Well, it was a very small thing. I think it was just a competitive edge amongst us that was coming out. Both of us are good mates off the field. It was just a little bit of a banter and both of us enjoyed it,” Krishna said at the post-day press-conference.

"That was also the plan. I didn't really expect a couple of words that I said to get such a big reaction from him. But like I said, I love the guy that he is. He's a legend of the game. And for him to come out there, it's great when two people are out there wanting to do their best," he added.

Meanwhile, both Krishna and Mohammed Siraj picked up four wickets each and massively helped India in bundling out England for a low total of 247. The hosts took a slim lead of 23 runs which was taken away from them by the Men in Blue thanks to Yashasvi Jaiswal's unbeaten knock of 51 runs from 49 deliveries. India wrapped up the day on 75/2, leading the hosts by a 52-run margin. It remains to be seen if the bowlers will continue to dominate at The Oval on the third day of the match.
