Starting the day on a promising 65, the left-handed batsman wasted no time in making his intentions clear. He resumed his innings with confidence, dispatching a delivery from Brydon Carse to the fine leg boundary for his first runs of the morning. He continued to assert his dominance over the England seamer, striking two more fours and putting the pressure back on the bowling side.

His aggressive approach was not limited to the pacers. Facing the spin of Shoaib Bashir, he skillfully struck a four and followed it up with a commanding six, a sequence that swiftly propelled him into the nineties. In a fitting culmination to his charge, he reached the coveted three-figure landmark by launching a massive six over deep mid-wicket off Bashir, celebrating the milestone with his signature backflip.

This century was not just a personal triumph but also a record-breaking achievement. With this ton, his seventh in just 44 Test matches, he surpassed the legendary MS Dhoni, who had scored six centuries in 90 matches, to become the Indian wicketkeeper-batsman with the most hundreds in Test cricket. Furthermore, this accomplishment elevated him to the fourth position on the all-time list for most Test centuries by a wicketkeeper in international cricket, placing him alongside esteemed names like Kumar Sangakkara, AB de Villiers, Matt Prior, and BJ Watling.
