India’s senior all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja on August 2 broke West Indies’ legendary batter Garfield Sobers’ 59-year-old record for most fifty-plus scores by a visiting batter in England at no.6 or lower. Jadeja broke the record with a 53-run knock against Ollie Pope-led side on Day 3 of the fifth and final Test of Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at Kennington Oval, London.
Jadeja continued on his merry way in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, registering his sixth 50-plus score in the series.
Jadeja has developed into one of India’s most reliable all-rounders in Test cricket, potent with bat in the overseas conditions. The soon-to-conclude Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, likely to be his last tour of England, has been a fitting example of his value to the side.

Time and again, he has risen to the occasion in challenging conditions. In ten innings across the five Tests of the series, the 36-year-old amassed 516 runs at an impressive average of 86, that is his highest run tally in a Test series. His remarkable performance featured five half-centuries and a century.
With it, he made it ten 50-plus scores in Tests in England while batting at No. 6 or lower (five each at 6 and 7). It’s the highest by a visiting player, surpassing nine by former West Indies captain Sobers who took took only 16 matches for five half-centuries and four hundreds. But, Jadeja’s record in 27 innings couldn’t be understated either, considering only five other visiting players have more than five 50-plus scores here.
