Team India and England are wearing black arm-bands on Day 5 of the 1st Test match to mourn the demise of former India off-spinner Dilip Doshi who passed away in London on June 23 due to a cardiac arrest. Dilip represented India in 33 Tests and 15 ODIs, where he picked up 14 and 22 wickets respectively. Doshi made a silent exit from international cricket 1980s as he did not agree with the way Indian cricket was being run at the time.
Dilip Doshi made his international debut against Australia in the first Test match of Australia’s tour of India in Chennai. He picked up six wickets, conceding 103 in the first innings and overall, eight for 167 in the fixture. Doshi is one of the nine Indian men who have a five-for on their debut Test.
BCCI took their 'X', formerly known as Twitter, revealed that both teams will wear armbands on the last day of the first Test in memory of Dilip Doshi.
"Both teams are wearing black armbands today in memory of former Indian cricketer Dilip Doshi, who passed away on Monday. The teams also observed a minute's silence before the start of Day 5" posted BCCI.
India vs England 1st Test
Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul's centuries helped India to score a defendable total in the first Test match. India were off to a bad start on Day 4 because captain Shubman Gill also departed in the first session. But the Rahul-Pant stand turned the momentum. Both batters fell in the final session while trying to accelerate and set a formidable target for England.
In response, England openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley safely negotiated the remaining six overs of the day, adding 21 runs without loss. With 350 runs still to get on the final day and all ten wickets in hand, England face an uphill battle, while India will be eager to strike early and push for a series-opening victory.
