Rishabh Pant celebrates his second century in Headingley Test; Head coach Gautam Gambhir speaks at the post-match press conference.

Story Highlights:

Rishabh Pant became 1st Indian batter to score century in each innings of a Test.

Pant became the 2nd wicketkeeper-batter in history of Test cricket to score a century in each innings of a Test.

India became the first team to lose a Test despite 5 centuries.

IND vs ENG: Former India head coach Gautam Gambhir was in no mood to focus on individual brilliance after the five-wicket defeat in the first Test of the series against England at Headingley, Leeds. Gambhir was asked how he felt to watch newly-appointed vice-captain Rishabh Pant becoming only second wicketkeeper-batter to score two centuries in a Test. He chose to point out that there were three other centurions in the Test and the question could have been framed better.

"There are three more centuries as well. Those are big positives as well. Thank you," Gambhir said in the post-match press conference.

"I would have liked if you said there was a hundred from Yashasvi (Jaiswal), hundred from Shubman (Gill) on debut as captain.

"(There was a) hundred from KL (Rahul) and two centuries from Rishabh, so five centuries in a Test match is a great start to be honest. And hopefully the question could have been better," he added.

India became the first team in Test cricket's history to lose a game despite having five centuries on the scoreboard. The former Indian opener also talked about Jasprit Bumrah's five-wicket haul in the first innings being a big positive. He is disappointed with the defeat but wants to look ahead.

"But again these are great positives, we had a fifer from Jasprit Bumrah as well. Eventually everything boils down to the fact that...we go out there to get the results," he said.

"Yes, Individual performances are good, we want those big runs from our top six, seven which we got in this Test match. But at the end of the day you go out there to win a Test match.

"Unfortunately that wasn't the result. So we take it on the chin and move forward," the 43-year-old added.
