Former India cricketer Suresh Raina has backed Shubman Gill & Co. to make a comeback in the Test series against England and script a historic victory. Raina feels that the current side can very well manage to turn the series around after being down 2-1 while heading into the fourth Test in Manchester.
England stand on the brink of winning the series
The Men in Blue suffered a 22-run defeat to the hosts in the third Test at Lord's. The victory saw the Three Lions take a valuable lead in the series and also left them on the brink of winning the five-match series. If Ben Stokes' men manage to win the upcoming match at Old Trafford, they they will go on to seal the series before even playing the fifth game.
However, Raina believes that it will be the opposite that will happen. He named the Indian players who have given brilliant performance with either the bat or the ball in the series so far and expressed confidence in the Men in Blue to record their first Test series triumph on English soil since 2007.
"India won, then India lost, then won, then lost (sessions in the Tests series so far). But Shubman Gill as a player, has done well. He has scored runs. Washington Sundar has done well. Jasprit Bumra, I think his bowling was outstanding," Raina told ANI.
Then we saw how KL Rahul batted, offereed some solidity as an opener and got good support from Yashasvi Jaiswal. Then Rishabh Pant, he has batted so differently and his wicketkeeping has been great. They will do it, they have that sense of desire, perseverance and determination. Gill will make his mark, as a batter and as a captain. I think he has done very well," he added.
The Indian team currently dominate both the top run-scorer and top wicket-taker charts with Shubman Gill being the highest run-getter of the series against England so far with 607 runs in six innings. On the other hand, Mohammed Siraj is the top wicket-taker with 13 scalps and is closely followed by both Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep with 12 and 11 wickets respectively. It remains to be seen which side will come out on top in the fourth Test of the series in Manchester that is set to commence from July 23.
