India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav revealed that his Mumbai Indians (MI) teammate came to his room after the second T20I in Gqeberha and urged him for an opportunity to bat at No.3. Tilak who made his comeback in India's T20I scheme of things batted at number four in the first two matches scored 33 and 20. Suryakumar who usually features at number three sacrificed his batting position for a young batter. Tilak joined Abhishek Sharma on number three after Sanju Samson was out for a second-ball duck. The left-handed batter smashed a dominating century which helped India to take an unbeatable 2-1 in the four-match series.
"He (Tilak) came to my room at Gqeberha and said give me a chance at No. 3, I want to do well and I said go out there and express yourself. He asked for it and he delivered. Very happy for him and his family" said Suryakumar Yadav in post match conference.
Suryakumar Yadav also revealed that he told the team to play destructive cricket and the team followed his instructions.
"Very happy. What we spoke about in the team meeting, we played the brand of cricket we discussed. That's what we have been telling them to do. They do that for the franchise, they do that in the nets. Very happy with the way things are going. Aggression and intent is always not about talking. They have made my job easier when I see them bat like that. I feel we are in the right direction. First time we were 6-7 minutes ahead on the field" SKY added.
Tilak scored a powerful unbeaten 107 runs from just 56 balls, while Abhishek contributed a quickfire 50 off 25 deliveries. Together, the two left-handers powered India to an impressive total of 219 for six at SuperSport Park.
India vs South Africa 4th T20I is scheduled to take place on November 15 at DP World Wanderers Stadium.
