India captain Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to bat first in the second Test of the series at Sinhalese Sports Club, Colombo. As reported earlier by Sports Tak, Saransh Jain has got the Test debut cap. Jain has replaced left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav who has an infection. The right-arm off-spin-bowling all-rounder got his debut cap from veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.

India made just one change to their side. On the other hand, Sri Lanka had to make two forced changes after injury to Dinesh Chandimal. Also, they have dropped opener Nishan Madushka. Kamil Mishara has been handed his Test debut. Also, Pasindu Sooriyabandara, who made his Test debut as concussion substitute for Chandimal, has got a chance.

Debutants' first-class numbers

Sri Lanka's Mishara has played 49 first-class games and scored 3,521 runs at an average of 46.94, featuring nine tons and 15 fifties. Sooriybandara averages 53.76 in first-class cricket from 69 games. He has 4,893 runs including 14 centuries and 23 half-centuries.

Sooriyabandara had played for SLC XI against India in the three-day warm-up game where he registered scores of 35 and 4. Earlier, in June, he played a warm-up game against West Indies Select XI where he scored 14 and 8. Before that, he played two games against New Zealand A at home, registering scores of 43, 32 and 20.

India's 33-year-old Jain has played 54 first-class games. He has 188 wickets at an average of 27.30, including 10 fifers. He With the bat, he scored 2,223 runs at an average of 31.75, featuring two tons and 14 fifties. He had taken seven wickets on India A's tour of Sri Lanka A in addition to an unbeaten 70. In the three-day practice game, he remained wicketless and remained not out in both innings.
