Frustrating draw against Sri Lanka in 2nd Test dents India's WTC final chances, Here's how

India's draw in the Colombo Test has significantly affected their chances in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-2027 final.

India needed to win the series 2-0 against Sri Lanka to create a comfortable buffer in the WTC points table. However the recent draw in Colombo has complicated their position making their path to the final more difficult. Following the draw India's ranking has slipped below Bangladesh who now hold 55.5 percent points while India has 55 percent. This shift has come after Bangladesh lost a match at Mackay and India failed to secure a win in Colombo. India only has seven test matches remaining which includes challenging series such as the Border Gavaskar Trophy against Australia at home followed by an away series against New Zealand.

The pressure is immense as India has to win six out of the seven remaining matches to keep their hopes alive. They can afford to lose just one test but two losses would mathematically eliminate them from contention unless other teams suffer unexpected setbacks like New Zealand's draws with Australia or South Africa's losses. The current points table has Australia at 80 percent South Africa at 75 percent and New Zealand at 72.2 percent making the competition extremely tight and unforgiving.
