In a major setback to India right ahead of Zimbabwe tour, star all-rounder Washington has suffered an injury during Lancashire-Worcestershire' clash in the ongoing One-Day Cup on Wednesday (August 11).

However, there has been no official update on the extent of Washington's injury but the Lancashire club has put out a statement saying that player left the field after receiving treatment on his left shoulder following a heavy landing during fielding.

"Washington Sundar has left the field after receiving treatment on his left shoulder following a heavy landing. No breakthroughs with the ball just yet. 27-0 (8)," Lancashire had tweeted.

Washington joined Lancashire to regain his match fitness last month and has been in good form for the English county side so far. In his two County Championship matches so far, he has scored 52 runs and snared eight wickets. He took three wickets in the first two domestic 50-over matches, but is likely to miss the remaining fixtures due to his recent injury.

The bowling all-rounder has been named in India’s squad for the upcoming three-match ODI tour to Zimbabwe commencing from August 18. Earlier in the year, Sundar injured his bowling hand during the 2022 Indian Premier League season while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad and missed a considerable amount of matches.

Following a history of injury, the chances are pretty high that the 22-year-old could miss the upcoming tour. And if the extent of injury doesn't show a good sigh, he might miss the marquee T20 World Cup, which will be played later this year, as well.

The youngster has played four Tests and 35 white-ball international matches for the Indian team so far. He boasts an average of 66.25 in Test matches and has taken 25 wickets in 31 T20I matches at an impressive economy rate of 7.24. With many talented all-round options competing for a place in the national team, he has struggled to maintain his place of late.

India squad for Zimbabwe ODIs: Shikhar Dhawan (Captain), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, Deepak Hooda, Rahul Tripathi, Ishan Kishan (wicket-keeper), Sanju Samson (wicket-keeper), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Avesh Khan, Prasidh Krishna, Mohd Siraj, Deepak Chahar.
