Addressing concerns over Ishan Kishan’s fitness ahead of Sunday's T20I opener against Afghanistan in New Delhi, Indian captain Shreyas Iyer offered a reassuring update during the pre-match press conference, confirming that the wicketkeeper-batter is feeling "comfortable" and is anticipated to take the field.

Iyer gives big update on Ishan Kishan's injury ahead of 1st T20I vs AFG
The encouraging news comes shortly after a tense moment during Friday's practice at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Fresh off captaining East Zone to a Duleep Trophy victory, Kishan was taking part in India's first complete training session when he appeared to tweak his back.

The incident occurred about an hour into his turn in the nets, following a stint facing spin alongside Iyer. Shifting over to the fast-bowling net, Kishan faced a sharp bouncer from net bowler Navdeep Saini that rose uncomfortably quick. Attempting to arch his back out of the ball's path, the keeper immediately showed signs of distress, prompting the team's medical and support staff to quickly rush onto the field to evaluate him.
'I’m sure that he will be fine for tomorrow'
However, Iyer cooled fears of a serious setback, noting that he had checked in with Kishan directly after practice and found the keeper in good spirits ahead of the match.
“Ishan, I feel that he’s comfortable at the moment. I interacted with him after the practice session. It was just a small niggle, and he’s been playing continuous cricket,” Iyer said at the pre-match press conference.
“We all know the knock he played, so definitely a bit fatigued, but today he got that rest, and I’m sure that he will be fine for tomorrow,” he added.
